As one of the leading CBD drink brands on the market, we are often asked if it’s safe to drink them and drive. The short answer is yes – you can drive after drinking a CBD drink. In this blog post, we’ll discuss how CBD drinks affect driving, as well as whether or not they show up on drug tests.
What are CBD drinks and how do they work?
Most CBD drinks contain CBD oil, a natural compound found in the cannabis plant. CBD oil has many beneficial properties, including pain relief, anti-inflammatory effects, and anxiety relief.
CBD oil is absorbed into the bloodstream and travels throughout the body when consumed. This means that it can affect various areas of the body, including the brain.
Our CBD-infused drinks contain 15mg of full-spectrum CBD, which is enough to provide a calming, relaxing effect without making you feel drowsy.
Can you legally drive after drinking a CBD drink?
CBD is not a psychoactive compound; it doesn’t cause the “high” associated with THC. Therefore, just because driving while under the influence of THC is restricted, this doesn’t mean that using CBD products and driving afterwards is also illegal. (1)
If you are using a CBD oil or other CBD product sold legally in the UK, you should have no issues with driving legally. For a product to be sold legally in the UK, it must have no more than 0.2% THC concentration.
Most controlled substances have a legal limit above which you can be charged for driving under the influence. For example, if your blood alcohol level is above 0.08%, you are legally considered to be “under the influence”.
However, with CBD, there is no set limit, as it is not considered a controlled substance.
How does CBD oil affect driving ability?
Although driving after drinking a CBD drink is perfectly legal, there are some cases where you should exercise caution.
Have you recently taken medication or illegal drugs?
If you don’t feel well, it is always best not to drive, even if it isn’t illegal. If you are in any doubt at all about your prescription drugs, always check with a professional before taking that risk.
Do you feel fit to drive?
If in doubt, don’t risk it. Make sure your product’s labelling is detailed so that you can be sure that any THC levels are at trace levels or below.
Does CBD show up on drug tests?
CBD does not show up on standard drug tests in the UK because drug tests are designed to detect THC and other psychoactive compounds. CBD oil has no psychoactive effects, so it is not intended to be picked up on a standard drug test.
However, some more sophisticated drug tests can detect CBD in your body. If you are concerned that your CBD drink may show up on a drug test, we recommend speaking to the company that carried out the test to find out more information.
If you’re using a CBD-infused product that is being sold legally in the UK, you should have no issues with driving legally. Try to avoid buying any CBD products that are not sold through a reputable source, as they may not be legal or safe to use.
Understandably, we are worried about driving safely after drinking any drink, CBD or not. However, as long as you are using a CBD product that is being sold legally in the UK and is below the 0.20% THC limit, you should have no issues with driving after drinking it.
Always be sure to read the label of your product carefully to make sure there are no hidden surprises. This will ensure that you can be 100% confident in the safety of your CBD drink.
You should also make sure to consult a medical professional before using any CBD product if you are under 18 years old or pregnant, breastfeeding or taking prescribed medication.
